百老汇简短repo:2013/10/19 《Pippin》

剧目:Pippin
时间:2013/10/19
地点:Music Box Theatre, Broadway, NYC

Main Cast:
Pippin: Matthew James Thomas
Leading Player: Patina Miller
Charles: Terrence Mann
Fastrada: Charlotte D'Amboise
Berthe: Tovah Feldshuh
Catherine: Rachel Bay Jones
Theo: Ashton Woerz

There are many, many, many great things about Pippin. The cast! The beautiful Patina Miller oozed charisma, and Matthew James Thomas was downright adorable. The voices! Again, both Miller and Thomas shone through when they had the high-belting songs. ("Glory" and "Corner of the Sky" were both glorious, plus Granny Berthe's "No Time at All".)

AND THE STAGING! THE LIGHTS! THE COSTUMES! Truly breathtaking. I was monumentally tired before the show, but throughout the performance I wasn't drowsy in the least (except for the intermission, ha). I really, really cannot sing enough praises about this aspect of the production. That alone is worth for front-center seating prices. Oh and the jokes weren't halfway bad, either.

But.
(There is always a but, except for The Book of Mormon and maybe Les Miserables.)

The storyline, while in some aspect original (especially the new ending), remained...shall we say, problematic. I would have been much happier if there was no resolution to the central dilemma at all, rather than have the current ending, which somehow feels...forced. I would have preferred the 2nd half to be a repeat of the 1st half, really.

But, again. This was a GREAT production. A feast for the senses and a thoroughly good time. I would recommend it to just about anyone! :D

总结:故事3星,制作5星,音乐3.5星,唱功3.5星(不是嗓子不好,是秀嗓子的时候太少),演技3.5星。

Broadway Rankings: Les Miserables & The Book of Mormon > How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying & Chicago & Miss Saigon & Billy Elliot & Priscilla, Queen of the Desert & Jersey Boys & Pippin > The Lion King & Wicked & Mary Poppins > Evita & Cinderella & Rent & Phantom of the Opera
