I want it all and I want it now

Half-suffered through a Royal Caribbean production of We Will Rock You while on the cruise (it picked up near the end). The musical version of "I Want It All" was a standout, though, and the official Queen version is downright glorious even though I did not recognize Freddy Mercury at first.

Some have commented that the song reflects an essential human problem—literally, we want it all and we want it now. But I think that if you read the lyrics in its entirety, it's clearly an anti-establishment song for the youth in rebellion. As my parents went to the musical with me, I was thinking that perhaps I could translate the cultural significance behind the song to them, but then I thought of Cultural Revolution (which was their version of youthful rebellion) and decided that it was really not a good idea to raise the subject... *facepalm*

Haha I was wondering why you were listening to Queen! I remember the first Queen song I heard was the theme to Highlander...

I think it's definitely an anti-establishment song...and watching that video there is one line that stands out to me (bc I'm a Dylan fan...) It reminds me 'The Times They Are A-Changin'" which famously starts with:

Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’

PS Brian May is amazing
